Help for compulsive gamblers
At a recent summit at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino near Hollywood, the Florida Council on compulsive gambling announced that a free treatment program for gambling addicts would soon be set up.
The funding for the treatment has been provided by the Seminole Indian Tribe, in the form of a $300,000 donation. It has not yet been decided where the treatment centres will be located.
The Council does receive state funding for outreach and training programs for doctors, however that funding prohibits going toward treatment, so the donation is surely much appreciated.
Although the vast majority of gamblers have control over their gambling, a small percentage of people do have a serious problem with addiction to gambling, and it is good to see that these people will in the future be helped, even if only in the Florida region for now.
